We kicked-off our "One District, One Book" on Feb. 2nd. Our book this year is The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. Please click here to see the reading schedule, to listen to the chapters read aloud by our guest readers and for more information about our "One District, One Book.
Alex's Lemonade Stand
Grade 5 held their Spelling Bee on January 21. There were 25 students who participated and they will receive a ribbon and certificate for participating.
This year’s Spelling Bee winner is Bailey Tomsich. Ethan Tweedy was our second place runner-up and Griffin Steinke took third place. Each of these students will receive a ribbon and certificate. Bailey and Ethan will also receive a FREE one-year membership to Britannica Online for Kids (a $69.95 value).
Bailey will represent Westwood Elementary at the District Spelling Bee on February 2nd at South Junior High in the Auditorium. The 5th and 6th grade elementary competition will begin at 4:00 pm with the 7th and 8th grade bee immediately following.
The first, second and third place winner from each of the two bees will represent St. Cloud Area Schools at the Regional Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 12th. The Regional Bee will be held at Resource Training and Solutions located in Sartell and will begin at 9:00 am.
Congratulations and good luck Bailey. How do you spell F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C?
Scholastic Book Fair Was a Success
Thank you to everyone for your support of our Westwood book fair. We earned $2,900.00 in new books for the library! We will have one final book fair in May which will be the Buy One, Get One Free book fair!
Our 2nd round of PAKRAT is complete, and we just started our 3rd round with all new books! We ended our second round with a PAKRAT parade to celebrate all of the reading that our students did at home. Our students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade read 3,675 books during the 2nd round of PAKRAT! We have seven classrooms who read over 250 books! Mrs. McCarney's 2nd grade class read 317 books which was the most so they led the PAKRAT parade!
Thanks for supporting PAKRAT at home and keep reading!
P.A.W. needs you! Parent Association of Westwood
Want more offered for your kids? Enjoy being creative? Don't mind helping out? Want to get to know other parents? Enjoy being a leader or organizing events? We need you! Parents who get involved in their child's school, improve their students test scores and grades, their attendance at school and getting their homework done. It helps their children have a positive attitude, makes them more likely to graduate from high school and go on to college. P.A.W. meets at Westwood Media Center the first Monday of the month at 6:30 P.M.
