Starting August 6th, office hours will be 6:45-3:15, Monday-Friday.
Office is closed: June 30th-July 4th and July 28th-August 5th.

Thanks to BLEND, Westwood has purchased a lot of technology for student and classroom use! In 2012-13, through BLEND, Westwood made $6000 and in 2013-14 $11,560.

Westwood's WordMasters Challenge just concluded for the school year. There were 55 Grade 3-5 students who participated in the three WordMaster Challenge Meets given in December, February & May. Congratulations to Laina Burris, Grade 3, Carlos Thull, Grade 4, and Lydia Deavel, Grade 5, for having the top overall score total for the three Challenges. Each of these students won a WordMasters Champion medal and a Certificate of Recognition. Way to Go!
Other students who deserve recognition for making the Top Ten Overall Team from their grade levels are:
Grade 3: Isabelle Vos, Alison Andruschak, Jessica Fossum, Jack Ouimette, Bangaly Kaba, Ashley Nieman, William Allenspach, Aaron Block, Rachel Kjorlien & Ella Marohl.
Grade 4: Rachel Lampert, James Nyberg, Brodyann Luostari-Holmberg, Griffin Steinke, Bailey Tomsich, Summer Jesok, Sofia DelFratte, Cailey Davidson & Colby Shaffer.
Grade 5: Ethan Logeman, Mackenzie Bingel, Galaan Omar, Alex Ring, Tyler Gaustad, Arin Campa, Chloe Swanson, Isabelle Birk & Eryn Bloom.
Each WordMasters participant received a certificate for all of their hard work. Thank you to the following coaches of WordMasters: Holly Andruschak, Jean Ouimette, Jennifer Lampert & Annette Witte-Nyberg.

On January 10, Grade 5 held their grade level Geography Bee. The winning student received a certificate and a medal. In addition, the first place winner takes a written, multiple-choice Qualifying Test for the state competition. The first place winner of the state competition Bee advances to the national level. The televised final round of the 2014 National Geographic Bee will be held on May 21, 2014. Visit www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee to find broadcast information for the 2014 National Geographic Bee.
Congratulations to Eryn Bloom, Westwood's Geography Bee winner. Tyler Gaustad received the second place ribbon and Megan Vasek received the third place ribbon and both received certificates. The students were coached by Mrs. Witte-Nyberg. Good luck Eryn!
Grade 5 held their grade level Spelling Bee on January 17. The winner of the Spelling Bee was Chloe Swanson. Chloe received a ribbon and certificate and also receives a FREE one-year subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica Online for Kids (a $69.95 value). Second place went to Lydia Deavel, third place to Arin Campa and fourth place to Olivia Goedert. All of these students received ribbons and a certificate.

Westwood hosted a 6 team US Academic Triathlon meet on Friday, December 6 and congratulations go out to Westwood Team C089 who took first place. Team members are Lydia Deavel, Heiley Jongeward, Ethan Logeman, Chloe Swanson and Megan Vasek. Coaches are Connie Logeman and Jona Deavel. Second place ribbons went to St. Katharine Drexel School.
Congratulations again to Westwood's USAT Team C089 for taking first place at Sartell Middle School's USAT meet on January 10. This was a nine team competition with teams from Sartell, Clearview, St. Katharine Drexel, Kennedy, Madison and St. Boniface. Team members are: Lydia Deavel, Heiley Jongeward, Ethan Logeman, Chloe Swanson and Megan Vasek. Coaches are Jona Deavel and Connie Logeman.
Westwood was the host site on January 31 for a six-team USAT meet. There were (4) Kennedy teams and (2) Westwood teams at this competition. Congratulations to Westwood Team C089 for taking second place. Team members are: Lydia Deavel, Heiley Jongeward, Ethan Logeman, Chloe Swanson & Megan Vasek. They are coached by Jona Deavel & Connie Logeman.
Regional competition meets are scheduled for February 28. Westwood teams will compete at Madison and Talahi schools. All teams taking first place at the five area Regional Meets will advance to the State Tournament on March 22. Good luck to our Westwood teams at Regionals.

Ms. Dollman Stoll and her Art Students
Fifteen Westwood artists have work on exhibit in the Vera Russell Gallery, located in The College of Education Building at St. Cloud State University. The exhibit consists of 45 large frames for two-dimensional work and three glass cases. The location allows viewing by hundreds of students, staff, and faculty members of St. Cloud State each day. You are welcome and encouraged to visit the exhibit. The College of Education Building is open most evenings and Saturdays.

Want more offered for your kids? Enjoy being creative? Don't mind helping out? Want to get to know other parents? Enjoy being a leader or organizing events? We need you! Parents who get involved in their child's school, improve their students test scores and grades, their attendance at school and getting their homework done. It helps their children have a positive attitude, makes them more likely to graduate from high school and go on to college. Can't beat all of those positives! P.A.W. meets at Westwood Media Center the first Monday of the month at 6:30 P.M.
